Donte Whitner of the Buffalo Bills continues to raise awareness in the community through his relentless efforts to raise funds for cancer research. Each year the number of people with cancer increases and the number of people who lose their battle with cancer increases causing more and more families to be devastated. The Annual Cancer Strike Bowling Tournament came about after finding out that his Grandmother Rosetta Whitner, who raised him alongside his mother, was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in 2007. She received the best care possible at Cleveland Clinic and participated in the first two Cancer Strike Bowling Tournaments in order to raise awareness and funds for families that were going through the same thing. She lost her battle with this deadly disease on March 14, 2009. Whitner is inspired now more than ever to continue the mission of raising awareness and funds as an effort to educate the community on this deadly disease that does not discriminate against age, gender, race, or creed. This year’s Cancer Strike Bowling Tournament is in her honor. Whitner received his leadership, strength, and heart set on helping others from his Grandmother and continues to spread the word, Whitner says, “If we join forces we stand a better chance of fighting the disease together than we do alone.” He will host the 3rd Annual Cancer Strike Bowling Tournament, Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Corner Alley in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Donations will be made to the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center
